You probably can't tell much from the pictures, but I painted the inside of the fireplace in the new room black. I had done the left wall in the "before" picture before I thought to take it. I want to try to clean the bricks better. Any suggestions that have worked for you?

I figured you have been busy with your remodeling! Sorry, though, no suggestions for cleaning bricks. I have never done that. I think the bricks of our fireplace have been varnished - or something. They are really nice and smooth and look pretty. It brings out the color of the bricks, I think. We've lived here 20 years and have never done anything to them except dust them. Once you get them clean, maybe you should try that.
